Social Media & Influencer Marketing

Social Media Experts in your Backyard!

Social media is a booming business right now, even with the rut our economy is in. I believe there are three reasons for that:

  1. Social media is an engaging medium that is difficult to fake or do half-ass.
  2. Social media is an inexpensive medium, requiring time but not a lot of expensive resources.
  3. Social media is a primary means of both acquisition (Search engines love it) and retention (enabling communication and relationships).

The uprising of social media has been so popular that it’s now beginning to produce regional experts. These folks have worked in advertising, marketing, and/or online technology for many years, but they’ve jumped to social media because the recognize the importance and potential. Here are three regional experts:

Kyle Lacy: Social Media, Indianapolis

Here in Indianapolis, I’ve been working with Kyle Lacy for the last year or so. Kyle has been working hard to establish himself as the regional Social Media expert. Do a search of Social Media Indianapolis, and you’ll even find Kyle ranked #1!

It’s no surprise, Kyle has an undying love of the medium – you’ll find him 24/7 building relationships on Friendfeed, Smaller Indiana, and every other possible place on the net. He works with clients from every industry here in town and drives his enthusiasm for online marketing into every strategy.

Jason Falls: Social Media, Louisville

At the recent Masters of Business Online, I got to attend Jason’s session Social Media Strategies: Marketing in a Web 2.0 World. Jason’s site Social Media Explorer is one that I’ve been following for some time. I had been planning on getting down to Louisville for quite some time to see Jason but something always got in the way… I’m so glad we finally got to meet!

While I worked on the direct marketing, database marketing, and technology side of marketing for the last decade, Jason has worked on the Public Relations and branding side of the business. I enjoy reading his blog because it’s a perspective that I don’t typically bring to the table. Be sure to add the

Social Media Explorer feed to your reading list. In speaking with Jason at the event, I was honored that he also reads my blog!

Mike Sansone: Social Media, Des Moines

Mike might be the nicest guy in social media! Mike and I have been following each others blogs for a couple of years now. His blog, Converstations concentrates on utilizing blogs to help drive business and community.

Who’s in your backyard?

Finding a regional social media expert is key to your business. If you look at your revenue and the majority of your revenue is local, then you should find out how the regional experts are. They can introduce you to networks and associations that will drive a lot of traffic to your business, help you with the local social media landscape, and communicate regional events.

If you’re a regional social media expert in another city or state, feel free to comment here with who you are, where you are, and what you specialize in. Perhaps it’s time that we begin our own regional directory?
