Today’s event ran without a hitch! Bill McKibben did a fantastic presentation on Deep Economy. Good friend, Pat Coyle, did one heck of a job pulling this all together!
If you’ve been reading my blog for some time, you’ve probably realized that I don’t buy into Global Warming 100%. That said, all the factors that environmentalists blame for Global Warming are, in fact, things I would love to see eradicated. I want less dependence on oil, more fuel-efficient cars, efficient public transit, less crud in the air, etc.
Bill discusses his extensive travel and brings many examples of other countries and communities that are providing some exceptional examples of ridding their dependence on oil, while continuing to be productive. The conference was definitely energizing, but sometimes I wonder if it’s simply not too little too late. We have a government, economy, and business environment that is all about finding more, pushing more, distributing more, concentrating wealth and responsibility.
Bill brought some great lines as well, my favorite: “Why is our oil buried under their country?”
