I couldn't agree more that DoFollow combined with Askimet is a great idea. Glad to see the DoFollow movement is continuing to grow. I found your blog while researching for my latest challenge the DoFollow Pingback Challenge. Hope you pop over and take a look, either way glad I found your blog.

No special stuff, Dean. You may have to take the wp-content/cache directory and modify permissions (CHMOD 777) but I think that's the extent. That means that the application is allowed to read and write to that directory.

If it can not, it has some error handling in the plugin that will tell you what is wrong. It's a fantastic plugin and my site has been hit with thousands of hits and wp-cache (and WP2.1) kept it chugging along!

How do you get on with the wp-cache plugin on Jumpline?
Did you have to do any special tweaks to work with your site, like dynamic stuff you've got in the sidebar like the Technorati rank plugin, Feedburner number of readers, etc.

I made a post over the weekend which sent my traffic through the roof, I went from a normal few hundred hits a day to 6000 in one weekend! not surprisingly my web site struggled, but the number of visitors put a smile on my face :-)

Great questions. Since I'm using Bad Behavior in conjunction with Akismet, I'm really not seeing an increase in comment spam. I did install dofollow and top commentators around the same time but I don't believe I saw any considerable increase at spam at the time.

It seems to me that spammers are beginning to give up on SEO placement by commenting. "Splogs" seem to be the method of choice for that. Those are fictitious blogs that steal content to drive SEO placement.

All in all, I get less spam on my site than in email so I'm content with the two solutions.

Thank you for the list of plugins. I am using some of them, but others not so much. Did you notice an increase in comment spam when you installed dofollow? Or did you install dofollow in conjunction with show top commenters?

Nofollow links wouldn't make much sense if you were using top commenters at the same time, unless you are BEGGING for spam.

Thanks, William! It's really too funny... I knew I had seen a plugin out there that did it and last night I could not find it for the life of me. Thanks! What a great resource! I like the fact that you can edit the description as well.

Ok, it seems that my first comments didn't go through (or get nailed in spam-land), so perhaps I should clarify...

'Vipers Plugins Used' is a great WP plugin that lets you output a list of all that you use. The beauty part is that you can customize the look of it and as you change plugins it always stays up to date.

I'm a big fan of seeing what other people are using and it's nice to see a plugin name and have the "AH! So THAT's what that plugin is!"..

Here is my list: http://tully.ca/blog/plugins-used/
