The $8.88 Campaign, 88 Sites, and 8 Wishes

Paul Sanchez got one of his wishes, an interview with Paul Orfalea, the founder of Kinkos and a fellow dyslexic. It’s an amazing interview and really provides you with a different perspective on life and business. My favorite line:

The A students work for the B students, the C students run the businesses, and the D students dedicate the buildings!

The other part of this that’s amazing is Paul’s take on business and leadership. He states that his job isn’t to work, it’s to think. He doesn’t maintain a busy schedule because it interferes with his thinking. He doesn’t read or use email. He watches and learns.

Paul Sanchez has a month to go and his #1 wish is to raise $1,000,000 for children with learning disabilities. I’ve never had a learning disability but have watched the devastating affects it has had on some close friends and their ability to feel good about themselves and their ability to fit in. It’s a great cause and Paul is bringing to light that it’s nothing that can’t be overcome as long as its identified early and treated.

Paul was gracious enough that he has commented on my site and mentioned it on his simply for supporting his cause. Here’s my challenge to you… donate $8.88 and do a post about 8 Wishes to get the word out. Donating $8.88 lets Paul know that it originated from our campaign. You can donate using the following widget (and you can post the widget on your site):

Let’s call it the $8.88 campaign for 8 wishes!

My blog is in the top 6,000 blogs on Technorati and in the top 90,000 sites on Alexa, so it will help your ranking quite a bit. Just leave a comment below that you’ve donated and do a trackback to this post with your post. We’ll get Paul the help he needs in no time!

  • Hey - for everyone that's supported the cause, please display the badge on your site so we can draw more folks into this great cause. You'll find the code above to add the badge!
  • Doug, this is a great idea. I've made a contribution, and I've posted to spread the word at www.reasonableminds.org. Thanks.
  • Doug,

Thanks again! I just noticed that you did all those backlinks too. We are going to do a post about the 8.88 campaign.

  • Fantastic, Paul! I was even thinking it may be cool to have a nice $8.88 logo to put on the site. If you don't have someone that can do that - let me know and I'll take a shot!

  • I am one of the 88 bloggers, and realized that my donation was on my to-do list, not on my done list.

So I clicked over to ChipIn and coughed up $88.88 -- $8.88 was just too weenie.

Thanks for the noodge and for making it easy.
